Top 10 countries in cement production in 2021

Top 10 countries in cement production in 2021

The cement industry is one of the most essential industries in the world. It plays a pivotal role in the economic development of a country. The production of cement is an energy-intensive process that consumes a significant amount of natural resources such as water, coal, and oil. Cement is produced by calcining limestone and clay at high temperatures in a kiln. The resulting clinker is then ground to a fine powder and mixed with gypsum to produce Portland cement. The following are the top 10 countries in cement production in 2021 according to the latest figures from the World Cement Association.

10. Saudi Arabia

As the world’s leading oil producer, it is not surprising that Saudi Arabia is also a major player in the global cement industry. In 2021, it is projected that the Kingdom will produce 73.4 million metric tons of cement. This would represent a significant increase from 2020, when production was estimated at 69.1 million metric tons. The majority of Saudi Arabia’s cement production takes place in the Eastern Province, home to the country’s largest cement plants.

Riyadh-based Arabian Cement Company (ACC) is the Kingdom’s largest producer of cement, with a total capacity of 10 million metric tons per year. The company has three plants in Saudi Arabia, one in Bahrain, and plans to build a fourth plant in Qatar. ACC is part of the larger Saudi conglomerate YAMAMA Group. Other major domestic producers include Southern Province Cement Company (SPCC), Qassim Cement Company (QCC), and Hail Cement Company (HCC). All told, these four companies account for over 60% of Saudi Arabia’s total cement output.

Cement demand in Saudi Arabia has traditionally been driven by construction activity related to population growth and infrastructure development. However, in recent years there has been a shift towards increased government spending on large-scale economic projects such as Vision 2030 and the NEOM megacity project. This has resulted in strong growth in demand for cement, with GCC countries expected to consume around 125 million

In Russia, cement production is forecast to reach 79 million metric tons in 2021. This would be an increase of 1 percent from 2020, when production is estimated at 78 million metric tons. As the fourth-largest producer of cement in the world, Russia’s cement industry is a vital part of the country’s economy. Cement is used in the construction of homes, schools, hospitals, roads, and other infrastructure projects.

8. Iran

Total Cement Production in 2021 by Iran: 62,000 TMT

As the world’s fourth-largest cement producer, Iran exported about 10 million metric tons of cement in 2019. The majority of Iran’s cement production takes place in the south of the country, where most of the nation’s cement plants are located. Production is expected to increase in 2021 as new plants come online and existing ones expand their capacity.

Iran is one of the world’s leading producers of cement, with an output of around 70 million metric tons in 2020. The country has a large number of cement plants, many of which are located in the south. Production is forecast to grow in 2021 as new plants come onstream and existing ones expand their capacity.

The vast majority of Iran’s cement exports go to its neighbors, with Iraq being the biggest market. The United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan, and Pakistan are also significant export destinations. In 2019, around 10 million metric tons of Iranian cement were shipped abroad.

7. Brazil

per year. Brazil’s cement industry is divided into two major segments: the integrated segment, which accounted for around 60% of total production in 2020, and the ready-mix segment, which accounted for the remaining 40%.

The majority of Brazil’s cement plants are located in the southeastern states of Minas Gerais and Sao Paulo. Other important production areas include the northeastern state of Bahia and the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Brazilian cement companies have been investing heavily in new capacity and upgrading existing facilities in recent years. As a result, installed capacity is expected to reach around 150 million metric tons per year by 2025. This would make Brazil one of the world’s top three cement producers.

6. Indonesia

Total Cement Production in 2021 by Indonesia: 66,000

As the world’s leading cement producer, China produced 2.4 billion metric tons of the stuff in 2020 alone – that’s almost 10 times as much as India, the second-largest producer with 280 million metric tons.

But what about other countries? Here are the top 10 cement-producing countries of 2020, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS):

China – 2.4 billion metric tons India – 280 million metric tons USA – 86 million metric tons Indonesia – 77 million metric tons Turkey – 63 million metric tons Brazil – 60 million metric tons Vietnam – 53 million metric tons Iran – 50 million metric tons Russia – 49 million metric tons Egypt – 45 million metric tons

As you can see, Indonesia is the fourth-largest cement producer in the world. And it is projected to maintain this position in 2021, with an estimated production of 77 million metric tons.

5. Turkey

Total Cement Production in 2021 by Turkey: 76,000

As the world’s second-largest cement producer, Turkey produced 64.2 million metric tons of cement in 2019, representing 8.4 percent of global production.

Turkey is expected to continue its strong performance in 2020 and 2021, with an estimated output of 66.8 million metric tons in 2020 and 69.0 million metric tons in 2021. This would represent year-over-year increases of 3.6 percent and 2.9 percent, respectively.

The country’s cement sector is supported by strong domestic demand, as well as exports to neighboring countries such as Iraq, Iran, and Syria. Additionally, Turkey benefits from large reserves of limestone, one of the key raw materials used in cement production.

Looking ahead, the Turkish cement sector is expected to continue growing at a healthy pace in the coming years, supported by continued strong domestic and export demand.

4. USA

Total Cement Production in 2021 by USA: 92,000 TMT

In 2021, the USA is expected to produce 89.3 million metric tons of cement. This would represent a 3.4 percent increase from the 86.5 million metric tons produced in 2020. The USA is the third-largest producer of cement in the world, behind China and India.

Cement is a key ingredient in concrete, which is widely used for construction around the world. The global pandemic had a significant impact on cement production in 2020, as many construction projects were put on hold or delayed due to lockdowns and other restrictions. However, with vaccine rollout underway and economies beginning to reopen, the demand for cement is expected to rebound in 2021.

3. Vietnam

Total Cement Production in 2021 by Vietnam: 100,000 TMT

As the world’s second-largest cement producer, Vietnam plays a significant role in the global construction industry. In 2021, Vietnam is expected to produce around 85 million metric tons of cement, slightly down from 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, this still places Vietnam ahead of other major cement-producing countries like India and Brazil.

Vietnam’s cement industry has been growing rapidly in recent years, thanks to strong demand from the country’s construction sector. government investment in infrastructure projects has also helped to drive growth. as a result, Vietnam has become one of the world’s leading exporters of cement and clinker.

The majority of India’s cement production takes place in the state of Madhya Pradesh, which is responsible for over half of the country’s total output. Other leading cement-producing states include Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh.

The increasing demand for infrastructure development and housing construction in India is expected to drive growth in the country’s cement sector in 2021. The government’s initiatives to boost economic growth, including its flagship program ‘Housing for All by 2022’, are also expected to support the expansion of the cement industry. Additionally, rising disposable incomes and urbanization are likely to spur demand for premium segments such as white cement and ready-mix concrete.
